Long time, no write.  We had a great weekend at Sacandaga Bible Conference.  Great teens, great God, good food.  Would have been better if Brad wasn't feeling like crud.

Well, God wants us to figure out how were shaped for ministry.   How are you doing?  Pastor Dave and I will present some opportunities on Sunday.  It was encouraging to hear how many of our students want to get involved in ministry.

So, students, leaders, and Sac.  Thanks for a great weekend.

Can I say shoe in mud, shivers, paintball, vaseline, and really loud amps and drums.  Do you think we had enough pizza?  Garlic knots are awesome, even cold.

Well, Rachel and I traveled to and from her parents (located in the finger lakes) for Friday evening.  We had a great time.  On the way there we noticed the humble apartment we rented for a while when we first moved back from Colorado.  At the time, we were hurting and couldn't see what God had ahead for us.  However, we did trust the Lord.  Now did we do it perfectly?  No.  However, the course of our life was focused on him.

Psalm 34.8 says "O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusts in him."

So give the Lord a taste.  He is some GOOD God.  Mmm, Mmm, Mmm.

When the waves are high and the ship is swamped it is hard to trust God. This is an ironic situation because we talk about trusting God, we sing about trusting God, and our t-shirts and bumper stickers say we trust God. I find the cause of this condition to be found in a dual souled lifestyle. James tell us that a "dual souled" person is unstable in all his ways. There have been too many instances when I have put myself on a chair or a ladder to fix something that wasn't made for my petite frame. The chair will often creak and crack and cause me to worry about whether or not I will fall. Oftentimes, the job is not done well or as fast as it could have been as a result. If I had just used a trustworthy ladder, I would have had the confidence to do the job I set out to do.

In the jobs' God asks us to do here on earth, where is our confidence? It is certainly not in our circumstances or trusting in our own finite resources. It is trusting in God, our stable ladder and the Rock. So how can we do that?

Psalm 34.1-10 confidently says God gives deliverance to those who choose a single minded lifestyle. We need to set our focus upon living a life that is glorifying to God. Anything else is an unstable ladder, which will cause us to be ineffective and immobilized.

Forgiveness.  The Bible actually has a lot to say about forgiveness.  I think the word "forgive" is in the Bible around 48 times.  There is the forgiveness of God toward us and the extent and reception of forgiveness to and from others.  Foriveness is the relinquishing of ones rights to get even for an offense.  One of my professors used to always say "Forgiving is not forgetting, but remembering you forgave."  Other's have said "Forgiveness is a choice."  I concur with prejudice.  Forgiveness is a choice we make to not get even and take revenge.  That choice is so countercultural.  It is such a contrast.  Kinda like the darkness and light.  Oh, I guess that's the point.
